42-year old Fiji fisherman, Dip Chand, appeared in the Rakiraki magistrates court after being charged with the murders of 3 teenage girls.

He had told police on Tuesday that he killed the three sisters aged 17, 18 and 19 on Sunday June 26th after taking them on a picnic to Malake Island.

Keveuli Tunidau, the assistant public prosecutor in Fiji's western division, says Mr Chand's guilty pleas are to be referred to the High Court.

"He had indicated that he needs no legal counsel because he will be pleading guilty, but the Magistrates Court has referred the pleas to the High Court, and that will be later in the month, probably in two weeks time."
