A study published in New Caledonia shows that nickel industry projects in the territory could create 15,000 jobs.

The figure was put to an international meeting in Noumea called "Nickel 2010" as the territory gears up for a massive expansion of the nickel industry.

The study also points out that an estimated 10,000 people are looking for work but that about 60 percent of them have no qualifications.

It says the challenge is to train people to match the possible job opportunities as about 4 billion US dollars is to be invested over the next few years in three projects.
