Solomon Islands Prime Mnister wants formal relationship with Japan city

9:31 pm on 14 July 2005

The Solomon Islands prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza has called for the formalisation of relationship between the Japanese city of Agui and one of the nine provinces in Solomon Islands.

Sir Allan made the call today when he visited Agui city, which is Solomon Islands sister city for the World Expo being held in Aichi Prefecture, in southern Japan.

The Prime Minister and his delegation went to Japan to help celebrate Solomon Islands National Day at the Expo yesterday.

He spoke after discovering that the City specializes in rice farming.

Sir Allen said that perhaps a delegation consisting of technical experts from Agui City could come to a particular province in Solomon Islands to cement this relationship.

He suggested that the Japanese International Cooperation Agency could be approached to look at options for funding such a viable program.
