American Samoa set for 101st anniversary of Manu'a cession to US

8:16 am on 16 July 2005

Today marks the 101st anniversary of the signing of the Deed of Cession by the last King of Manu'a, Tuimanu'a Elisara, ceding the eastern most group of islands in the Samoa group to the United States.

The signing made Manu'a a part of American Samoa.

A member of the Tau Village Council had said their village was not going to take part in the celebration.

However this has been disputed by High Talking Chief Alalamua Filoialii who said that the programme was going ahead as scheduled.
