Sealed packets containing the equivalent of about 13-thousand US dollars in French Pacific Francs, have disappeared from a police station in French Polynesia.

The daily paper, the 'Depeche De Tahiti' reports an inquiry has been opened and police have carried out a search at the station where 15 gendarmes work.

The newspaper reports the packets contained money seized last month during an inquiry into drug trafficking.

The money was stowed on the premises of the investigations brigade in the capital, Papeete.
