The Methodist Church of Samoa has elected a new president, Reverend Afereti Samuelu.

The 63-year-old was the church's general secretary and will next year replace long-serving Reverend Siatua Leuluaialii as the head of the 36-thousand member Samoan Methodist Church.

The President-elect said the country should always be mindful of the development goals.

He said his role would be to continue the church objectives that are already in motion.

The election was held during the Methodist general assembly.

Delegates also elected a new General Secretary with the appointment of Reverend Folasa II.
