Telikom PNG agrees to four per cent wage increase

11:02 am on 21 July 2005

The board of Telikom PNG Limited has agreed to pay its workers a four percent wage increase.

A call for such an increase is part of an ultimatum issued by telecommunications workers.

They have also demanded that strategic advisors KPMG be dumped by PNG Telikom along with an independent board member.

The Board chairman Dr Florian Gubon says only the government can deal with these matters.

On the issue of the wage increase, the board says it could not go ahead unless independent auditors can confirm Telecom's draft net profit is 30 per cent.

It says it would be wrong to commit to an increase without this insurance.

The union meanwhile is waiting for written confirmation of the offer.
