PNG detectives examine files on suspected instigators of student unrest

Papua New Guinea detectives are examining files on students suspected of instigating protests against the administration of the University of PNG in Port Moresby.

Students have been called back to classes today, as police hold a man suspected of firing a gun when driving past the campus earlier this week.

Assistant police commissioner Tony Wagambie isn't linking 35-year-old Jeffrey Wafi to recent unrest.

Assistant commissioner Wagambie says police have received information on several students suspected of burning the university vice-chancellor's car and stoking unrest.

He says one student is suspected of assaulting another.

"The file was received yesterday from the university administration, and our detectives are now studying the evidence, and the photographs were supplied by the administration so hopefully we'll make some arrests in the near future."
