Business as usual despite a lack of students at University of Papua New Guinea

Classes are running on schedule at the University of Papua New Guinea, despite a lack of students.

A University spokesperson said that some students turned up for class today but were driven away by a second group of students who insisted they join the protest.

Students have been staying away from classes at the country's main tertiary institution for over a week in protest over the grading system and their dissatisfaction with senior staff.

They have also staged sometimes violent demonstrations.

The UPNG had threatened to end the academic year early if the students continued to stay away, but they have now decided it will be business as usual whether or not students attend.
