Vote for parties not personalities, Solomon Islanders urged

8:24 am on 1 August 2005

There's been a call in Solomon Islands for people to start thinking about casting votes according to political party affiliations in next year's national elections.

The Leader of the Parliamentary Independent group, MP Gordon Darcy, says the country needs leaders with vision and loyalties.

He says in the past too many times political leaders were not held accountable for their promises.

Mr Darcy also says voting according to party will also help governments formed to carry out long term planning and implementing needed reforms.

Furthermore he says voters can hold their elected members accountable.
