Police in Papua New Guinea's second city of Lae are holding a teenage student on suspicion of stabbing two teachers to death.

The newspaper, The National, reports the youth allegedly used a pocket knife to attack three staff members at the Coronation International College yesterday.

All three victims were taken to hospital, where two men later died from blood loss; one a Morobean primary school teacher, the other from East New Britain.

The assailant, who is thought to be from Manus Island, was said to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack.
