Samoa's opposition leader Le Mamea Ropati is calling for an apology from the prime minister over allegations of mismanagement of funds.
The Samoa Observer reports that Le Mamea is upset that Tuilaepa Sailele claimed on television that opposition MPs had shared out among themselves nearly 37,000 US dollars raised in New Zealand.
The money came from a fundraising drive in New Zealand by supporters of the opposition Samoa Democratic United Party.
Le Mamea says the Prime Minister's claims are totally wrong and he showed reporters a copy of an ANZ bank statement, dated the 1st of August, confirming that the money was still intact and remained as a term deposit.
Le Mamea says he's worried that the Prime Minister's statements would leave a negative impression on SDUP supporters.
