The Samoa government has approved issuing three licenses for companies to operate Global System for Mobile Communications cell phone networks in Samoa.

The prime minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, is quoted by the Samoa Observer newspaper as saying that one license will be issued to Telecom Samoa Cellular and the other to the government owned SamoaTel.

He says these are part of resolutions agreed in talks on the settlement of an ongoing dispute between Telecom Samoa Cellular and SamoaTel.

The third license is being tendered out.
