Around five-hundred people have attended a Reconciliation meeting for people from the island of Tanna in Vanuatu's capital Port Vila at the weekend.
The meeting was initiated by chiefs from Tanna, and facilitated by the National Council of Chiefs, in an effort to discuss reports of criminal elements from Tanna causing trouble in the capital.
Ni-Vanuatu who have moved to the capital from Tanna have often been blamed for criminal activities in Port Vila.
However, the Reconciliation meeting established that it is only a small group of Tanna people who have caused trouble, including assault and possible involvement in the killing of a Chinese businessman in June.
The tribe in question have been ordered to pay a fine to Tanna chiefs.
The meeting is the latest in a nationwide general reconciliation process, initiated by the President Kalkot Mataskelekele during recent celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Vanuatu's independence.
