The state-owned Airports Fiji Limited has achieved its highest ever profit of US$3 million for the 2004 financial year.

The company's annual report says this is an increase of 186 per cent over the profit for 2003.

It says the results reflect the boom in the tourism industry with more aircraft arrivals, the entry of new cut-price airlines and re-organised management.

The company manages all of Fiji's airports but only Nadi International is profitable and others are loss making.

Airports Fiji Limited is currently investing US$7 million to improve the taxiway and aprons of Nadi Airport to enable it to handle bigger aircraft which will be operating in the near future.
