American Samoa agrees to inch up taxi fares

10:21 am on 25 August 2005

The Commerce Commission in American Samoa has agreed to raise taxi fares by 25 cents but not until a public hearing is held.

The commission chairman Faleseu Paopao told the Samoa News that the decision was made because the last time taxi fares rose was 13 years ago.

No date is set for a public hearing on the proposed taxi fare hike.

This week, the average gasoline price in Pago Pago reached US$2.72 per gallon.
