Chinese government fixing defects to Cooks courthouse

The Chinese government is carrying out repairs to the courthouse in the Cook Islands which was damaged by cyclones earlier this year.

The Cook Islands News reports five Chinese tradesmen are doing minor work on the building in Rarotonga over a period of three weeks.

Officials say this is in line with a promise to fix defects identified up to a year after the completion of the court house.

The building was constructed and funded by the Chinese government and was handed over in November last year.

It's the biggest project China has yet undertaken in the Cook Islands.
