Solomon Islands wants to increase its trade with Taiwan, and is encouraging its main aid donor to reciprocate.
The Prime Minister Sir Allan Kemakeza says the government and the Solomon Islands embassy in Taipei are working on a possible framework agreement that will cover bilateral trade and development co-operation with Taiwan..
He says the framework will help Solomon Islands to properly explore and utilise the opportunities that Taiwan can offer in trade and enable Honiara to prioritise areas for government co-operation.
Meanwhile, the prime minister Kemakeza announced his government's new policy that encourages investors to visit Solomon Islands to see what it can offer in terms of trade and sectoral opportunities.
Sir Allan made the announcement at a dinner he hosted for a touring Taiwanese parliamentary delegation.
But although the new policy is still to be announced officially, he says there is already a noted increase in the people-to-people private sector interaction and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The Taiwanese delegation is currently exploring various trade and economic opportunities that it can venture into with Solomon Islands.
