A former judge in Papua New Guinea says provinces should be given more powers to handle ongoing disruptions to phone services.
Environmental lawyer and former acting judge Brian Brunton, who lives in Alotau, says phone services to Milne Bay are frequently cut.
The Post Courier reports that the latest phone outage in Alotau, lasted for more than a week.
Telikom managing director Martin Veisame issued a public notice last Friday saying phones was cut due to the theft and vandalism of solar panels and radio equipment on Mt Boregoro.
This affected parts of both Central and Milne Bay Provinces.
Mr Brunton says locals are fed up.
