Papua New Guinea's Ramu Sugar Ltd, is confident of returning to its normal production level, by the end of the year.

The last financial year to March 31 was extremely difficult.

The company had errors in previous years' accounts and a 10,000-tonne shipment of sugar intended for sale to Sri Lanka was impounded in Colombo.

RSL chairman Peter Colton says progress this year has been positive, with about 75-percent of this years cane harvest processed and production of 33,000 tonnes of sugar.
