7:16 pm on 12 September 2005

The Solomon's government has returned thousands of hectares of alienated land to the people of the Russell Islands in the Southern Central Islands Province.

About five hundred families have begun resettling on the land at Pavuvu ..the largest of 99 islands in the Russell Islands group.

Pavuvu Island was the scene of hostilities between Russell Islands and a Malaysian logging company, ten years ago, after the government allowed it to log the island's forests.

The company promised to build roads schools and clinics for the local people but it failed to do so.
