Fiji wants ban on Vanuatu kava to continue

6:12 am on 13 September 2005

The Fiji Kava Council wants the ban imposed on imports of Vanuatu kava to continue.

The Fiji Times quotes the Kava Council chairman, Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo as saying the ban on Vanuatu kava is timely and appropriate.

He has urged local growers to increase production to meet the demands of the domestic market.

Ratu Josateki says the government should not consider reviewing the ban on Vanuatu kava after six months.

Fiji banned Vanuatu kava in retaliation after Vanuatu repeatedly refused to lift its ban on Fiji made biscuits.
