Fiji's Public Service Commission has been flooded with complaints about abuse of office and corruption in government ministries and departments.
The Fiji Times reports that this follows the commission's introduction of a Whistle Blowers Policy under which those reporting corruption are protected from victimisation and harassment.
The policy was adopted after the auditor general highlighted widespread malpractice and abuse within the government.
In a circular, the commission's chief executive, Anare Jale, says there are still people within the public service who have a tendency to illegally and unethically manipulate government systems.
He says the Whistle Blowers Policy was adopted as a stopgap measure while the government sets up an anti-corruption agency to combat public service corruption.
