American Samoa probes possible ecstasy importation

3:46 pm on 13 September 2005

Police officers in American Samoa are investigating the illegal importation of what are believed to be ecstasy pills.

The pills were discovered by customs agents during a routine check of packages being collected from the Post Office.

A young Chinese woman who claimed the parcel and her husband are helping police with their inquiries.

The territory's Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety, Mike Fuiava, says the pills have been sent off island for further lab tests to confirm that they are indeed ecstasy.

He indicated that charges would be filed after test results are received from the mainland.
