An assessment of 155 countries around the world has ranked Fiji 34th for being business friendly.
The Fiji Times says the Doing Business 2006 report has been co-sponsored by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation.
After Fiji at 34th position, it has ranked Samoa at 39.
The report says Pacific Island states which closely follow the business regulations of Australia, New Zealand and the United States have high scores.
It assesses factors such as starting a business, dealing with licences, hiring and firing laws, registering property, getting credit, protecting investors and enforcing contracts.
