A woman in Solomon Islands says she will stand in next year's election to contest the seat held by the prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, who has been an MP for 16 years.

Leotina Kikitu says she will stand in the Savo-Russells seat because Sir Allan Kemakeza has done very little for her people.

Ms Kikitu works as a cashier and secretary for the Commodities Export Marketing Authority and is one of a number of women who intending to compete in the coming national elections.

Ms Kikitu has told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that looking at issues that affect the people of Russell islands, she can see a lack of a well educated and informed human resource as the core of those problems.
