A Solomon Islands student has won a regional essay competition aimed at promoting greater cooperation among Pacific Island countries.

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General, Greg Urwin, says Alwyn Danitofea's entry describes the diversity of the region and suggests how some of the challenges facing island countries might be

overcome by working more closely together.

Mr Danitofea is a student at the University of the South Pacific, and will share his 3000 US dollars prize money with the institution.

He will also get to meet Pacific Leaders when they gather in Papua New Guinea next month for their annual summit where the Pacific Plan on greater cooperation in the region is due to be endorsed.
