French Polynesia and New Zealand firm consider region-wide tourist trail

The French Polynesian tourism minister, Jacqui Drollet, is considering launching a pan-regional tourism promotion in conjunction with a New Zealand Maori company.

The news agency, Tahitipresse, reports Mr Drollet recently met Mike Tamaki, of Tamaki Heritage Experiences, in the New Zealand city of Rotorua.

An official statement says the two men envisage the relaunching of a concept known as the 'coral route' or a tourist trail across the Pacific.

The so-called multi-destination package would enable travellers to discover the region's different cultures.

Mr Drollet has invited Mr Tamaki to Tahiti to work further on the project conceived in Rotorua.
