American Samoa's LBJ hospital to reveal restructuring details

3:35 pm on 20 September 2005

Staff at American Samoa's troubled LBJ hospital will hear more today about plans to reduce staff when amendments to the hospital's personnel manual are revealed at a public meeting.

These changes will pave the way for the hospital management and board to implement cost cutting measures that it was unable to carry out a few months ago.

One amendment allows the elimination of positions that are no longer necessary.

Two months ago, the board had identified 33 positions which it wanted eliminated from the payroll but was unable to do so because of the prescriptions in the personnel manual.

The amendments will also allow for a cut back in the hours of non medical staff.
