Vanuatu exports cultured succulent tissue for the first time

An Australian investor in Vanuatu has exported to his home country his first carton of cultured cuttings from a succulent.

Gary Robinson, who moved his business to Vanuatu seven months ago, has trained four local staff to grow the succulent in a laboratory in Port Vila.

Mr Robinson says work is in progress to secure similar markets for the plants in the Netherlands and South Africa.

Vanuatu's principal plant protection officer, Timothy Tumukon, says it is a breakthrough for the country as this is the first time to export plants grown through tissue culture from Vanuatu.
