A former coup convict in Fiji claims the police are hiding some of the information they unearthed in their coup investigations, because they want to protect their friends.
Viliame Savu served five months of a one-year jail sentence for his part in the May 2000 coup.
Mr Savu says so many people who should have been investigated by police, are still running around free, because some of them are in the government and some are Fiji ambassadors.
"So many things should have been highlighted as being put under the carpet. This is why things have been prolonging, so long, because some of the investigating officer want to safeguard the interests of their friends or whatever."
Another former coup convict, Maciu Navakasuasua, says police cut out three quarters of the pages in his witness statement because he alleges detectives wanted to omit the names of prominent people.
The assistant police commissioner, Kemueli Bulamainavalu, says given a five-year investigation it's necessary to summarise the evidence given by witnesses.
