American Samoan senate cans LBJ loan bill debate

8:05 pm on 21 September 2005

The American Samoan senate has abandoned moves to consider a bill that would have given the territory's LBJ hospital a 10 million US dollar loan.

The decision was conveyed in writing from the Senate President, Lolo Letalu Moliga, to the Governor, Togiola Tulafono.

The bill was to authorise the government to get the funds from the American Samoa Government Retirement Fund.

Lolo listed several reasons for the Senate's decision.

This includes the absence of specific language in the bill spelling out the agency that is to pay the loan.
