Princess Anne to make PNG visit

5:26 pm on 28 September 2005

Princess Anne is due to arrive in Papua New Guinea today for a one-day official visit.

She will be welcomed with a 21 gun salute at Port Moresby's international airport as Steven Harvey reports.

"Princess Anne will meet the prime minister, the Governor General and will be visiting the world war memorial cemetery, a disabled centre, a family support centre, and HIV/AIDS care centre and various locations in Port Moresby. The foreign affairs minister, Sir Rabbie Namaliu, has described the visit as a significant event. He says Her Majesty the Queens is still the head of state and the people relish the opportunity when they can see any member of the royal family. Princess Anne will leave tomorrow, making her 23 hour visit to PNG at the cost of about 2 million kina."
