Samoa Opposition leader says striking doctors' concerns just part of the problem in health

Samoa's opposition leader Le Mamea Ropati says the government has ignored calls to have a commission of inquiry into all aspects of public health.

Le Mamea says the government's move to instead look into grievances by striking doctors is narrow-minded.

He says doctor's salaries are just the beginning.

"Bad conditions of the district hospitals plus all the doctors problems, and also the nurses cry out for salary increases plus money, lots of aid money that's gone missing in the department and a lot of other things."

Le Mamea Ropati says many locals are having problems communicating with Indian and Chinese doctors, who have been hired by the government, while local doctors are striking.
