Major centres in Papua New Guinea could to be hit by power blackouts this week.
The government's confirmation of Australian Patrick Mara as the new PNG Power chief executive officer has angered the PNG Energy Workers Association.
The Post Courier newspaper quotes the union's secretary-general, Philip Kaira, as saying all business houses must get back-up generators rather than rely on PNG Power.
Mr Kaira also says he rang the Department of Labour and Employment Secretary and told him if they release the work permit, all hell will break loose.
PNG Power's acting chief executive officer, Lawrence Solomon, has indicated he would not hesitate to get a court order to ensure electricity services won't be disrupted.
