A group of 20 former Fiji soldiers whose first court martial conviction was overturned on appeal will be re-tried beginning next week.
The soldiers were jailed after their first court martial but the Appeal Court ruled that their conviction was illegal on a technicality after an application by the Legal Aid Commission.
The Appeal Court ordered that they be retried.
The commander-in-chief of the military, President Iloilo, has endorsed the president of the Fiji Law Society, Graham Leung, to be the judge advocate in the new court martial.
The chief of the military's legal service, Major Kitione Tuinausara, says President Iloilo has also endorsed the convening of the new court martial on October the 12th.
Col Apakuki Kurusiga will preside over the court martial assisted by other officers.
