71-year-old Samoan woman in drugs bust

A man, who told American Samoa police that he purchased marijuana at the Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu, has been charged with unlawful possession of an illegal substance.

Alexander Ronald Dean Jr. arrived in Pago Pago on October the 2nd, and was searched after a drug detecting dog identified the presence of drugs on the 26-year-old person.

The search revealed eight small plastic bags containing marijuana in the man's underwear.

If convicted, Dean faces a mandatory five years in prison or the maximum of 10 years.

Meanwhile, in Samoa a woman believed to be the country's oldest person to face drugs charges has appeared in Apia's Supreme Court.

71-year-old Pa'i Ilao of Vaitele has pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana.

She will be sentenced on the 27th of this month
