The Solomon Islands National Peace Council has raised concerns about the recent report of an unlawful firearm being discharged on Guadalcanal.
Its chairman Paul Tovua says the person responsible must be arrested and face the law.
He says such incidents will jeopardise developments getting under way, such as the Gold Ridge mine and the oil palm plantations.
Police on Guadalcanal say they are looking for a man who allegedly used the gun after a row in Tatau Village.
The Council has always maintained that weapons remain in communities on Guadalcanal, Malaita and possibly in Western Province, despite a series of amnesties and the presence of the Regional Assistance Mission.
