Fiji and India have signed a three-year mutual co-operation agreement.

The agreement has been signed in New Delhi by the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, and his Fiji counterpart, Laisenia Qarase, who's on his first official visit to India.

It deals with development co-operation and can be extended after the first three years.

Mr Qarase also signed a health service partnership agreement with India which would allow Fiji to explore technical collaboration and exchange of information in areas such as medical treatment referral, public health and hospital management.

Mr Qarase and his 50-member delegation will also visit Mumbai for meetings with business leaders and later tour Kerala, the information technology city of Bangalore and a sugar mill in Mysore.
