A Papua New Guinea woman has been accused of selling her month-old baby girl for 100 US dollars and a small pig - and police say they are at a loss as to what charges to lay against her

The newspaper, The National, says the woman, who has gone into hiding, sold the child while her husband was away from home.

Police are trying to locate the woman, who was from a village outside Mt Hagen in Western Highlands.

The paper quotes a state lawyer as saying he was not sure if there was any provision in the Criminal Code to deal with such a matter.
