11:10 am on 19 October 2005

Reports from the Cook Islands say a total of 78 nurses are set to receive a pay increase tomorrow, after they threatened to go on strike.

The Cook Islands News reports a letter has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management, which pays the public servants regarding the new remuneration packages for the nurses.

These nurses have been paid salaries below the minimum band according to the Price Waterhouse Coopers job evaluation system, and as of tomorrow's government pay day they will have their salaries increased to the minimum band for their respective positions.

Funding was approved for this in the supplementary budget.
