Allegations of fraud and corruption in Fiji's Immigration Department have resulted in a major change in the way its accepts fees for its services.
Fiji TV reports that from next week the Immigration Department will only accept bank cheques for services ranging from passports to work permits.
Cash or other means of payment will no longer be accepted.
The director of immigration says it is a safer and more secure way to do business.
Eroni Luveniyali says the measure will ensure his staff are not tempted by cash from people who want to manipulate them.
Mr Luveniyali has dismissed concerns about the extra cost of bank cheques, saying people who want a passport and can travel have the money.
