Netherlands MP says Papua province's inclusion in Indonesia is final

A Dutch MP says the international community should stop questioning the status of Papua province.

An MP from the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, Hans van Baalen, says the territory's inclusion into Indonesia was legitimate and final.

Mr van Baalen told an audience in Jakarta that a recent Dutch study shouldn't affect the good relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands.

The Drooglever report questions the legitimacy of the 1969 Act of Free Choice because it didn't allow most Papuans to vote for incorporation into Indonesia.

In the Papuan capital of Jayapura, hundreds of people demonstrated on Thursday to protest against Indonesia's 1963 invasion of the area and the 1969 Act.
