Solomons PM urges public officers to attend meetings

5:23 pm on 10 November 2005

The Solomon Islands prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, has told parliament's public officers that they will be disciplined if they fail to attend relevant meetings.

Sir Allan made the comment after being questioned by an MP, Joses Sanga, over the absence of public officers in the Department of Finance and Treasury.

The prime minister gave no details of the possible action.

On Tuesday, Sir Allan sacked two ministers for being late for a sitting in parliament.

One of the sacked ministers, Bernard Ghiro, says he was 22 minutes late because of constituency work.
