Reports from Papua New Guinea say 12 high school students have been raped after being abducted from their dormitory in Kainantu District by several armed men.

The Eastern Highlands police commander Superintendent Philipo Solala told the National newspaper that the men entered the school compound and overpowered the lone security guard.

They then forced him to switch off the generator before going to a teacher's house where they got the keys to the dormitory.

The girls were taken to some bushes near Nasengka bridge and raped.

Police say they are following up on several leads and appealed to relatives to help in the investigation.
