Solomons lacking cash for voter registration ahead of election

The Solomon Islands' home affairs minister, Nelson Kile, says a lack of money means people in some areas of the country can't yet be registered to take part in next year's general election.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports Mr Kile has told parliament that the delay in registrations is owing to the non-availability of funds.

The prime minister Sir Allan Kemakeza says US$200,000 has been allocated for the registration of voters, whilst US$2 million will be allocated for running the general election.
