American Samoa police commander faces jail for reckless driving

The American Samoa police commander, Lanu Mapu, faces up to a year in jail for reckless driving in connection with the death of an elderly man in March.

The Samoa News reports Mapu could have faced five years in jail under a charge of vehicular homicide.

Mapu pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving in a plea agreement.

He now faces a prison sentence and a fine of a thousand dollars.
