French Polynesia's government has agreed to despatch one of its vessels to the British territory of Pitcairn next month to carry essential supplies.

The French territory's cabinet, said this came in response to a specific request from the United Kingdom.

Pitcairn is inhabited by a community of less than fifty persons who mostly descend from the mutineers of the HMS Bounty, in the late eighteenth century.

It's believed to be currently facing disruptions in its supply of imported goods.

The relief operation is scheduled to be mounted in mid-December, relying on the French Polynesian government vessel Taporo Eight, which willl sail to Pitcairn with essential items.
