Police in the Cook Islands says a new crackdown on the sale of alcohol on Sundays follows a noise complaint after an operator blatantly abused the liquor laws.
The Cook Islands News says that was the comment from detective chief inspector Tearoa John Tini, who is the chairman of the Cook Islands Liquor Licensing Authority.
He says the complaint showed a restaurant had breached its licence which stipulates that alcoholic beverages must be sold with food.
As a result, police were toughening up on the regulation that also disallows the sale of liquor before 6pm on Sundays.
Detective chief inspector Tini says it is up to restaurateurs to read their licences carefully and note the terms and conditions of Sunday sales.
