Ex-councillors in Vanuatu have assets seized

Reports from Vanuatu say some former councilors of the town council in the second city of Luganville, have had their assets seized to settle what they still owe the council.

The Daily Post newspaper says the council and members of the Vanuatu Mobile Force have been going around to the homes of former councillors to confiscate their assets.

Since last year, there had been much controversy on the misappropriation of the Luganville Municipal funds.

The issue of former councillors' debts to the Council and staff borrowing from the council are said to be contributing factors to the run-down northern municipality.
